“A fresh start.”
Sigh. Doesn’t that phrase give you some kind of chill in the core of your soul? Like some sort of cold water has been flushed down your veins. It is unsettling. I don’t know about you but it does give me the chill.
Well, whenever I hear that phrase, I picture failure. I picture starting over something I might have worked on for a while — a few days, months, years perhaps — but suddenly failed and I have to start all over. Again. That’s how I see that phrase. Or should I say, that’s how I used to see that phrase? Yes, ‘used to’. I don’t picture that phrase with a bad vibe anymore — I try so hard not to.
At least not since I found Mary Pickford’s quote and other quotes like hers.
“You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing that we call ‘failure’ is not the falling down, but the staying down.”
Gotten what that means? It means having a new start isn’t a failure. It means you are strong and not so far away from the actual success you’ve been after.
When the storms of life hit you down so hard you feel that’s the end for you, that’s where the magical phrase is useful. A new start…a fresh start. That’s all you need. Not doing anything and staying down beaten and bedridden, that’s when you begin to fail.
And do you know another great thing about “a fresh start’? It’s a guaranteed success! No lie. Chances are you failed at your earlier attempt because of something you did or something you didn’t do. Now here’s a time to access yourself. Scrutinize your earlier path and find out what went wrong. Get them noted down and do better with the fresh start — the new chance you’ve been given. A chance to do better.
A fresh start is like hitting the factory reset button on your phone after it starts lagging. See how new and fast your phone gets after that reset? It has renewed energy and is ready to serve you!
Glad George Eliot said this better.
“It is never too late to be what you might have been.”
It’s never too late to have ‘A fresh start’. Whenever you feel stuck in life — regardless of what it is — giving up shouldn’t be a part of the list of options. Start anew! And do better than you did before.
“The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide you’re not going to stay where you are.”
—John Pierpont “J.P.” Morgan
